OUR HISTORY

SMALL BEGINNINGS

..     Grace Harbor began in 1886 after a tent meeting was held in Kalamazoo by Sebastian Michels.  The group Michels gathered was a part of a new movement of Bible-believing people based in Grand Junction, MI.  The first pastor of this new church in Kalamazoo was Rev. William Hartman for over 50 years. He led this small group of people who decided to follow Jesus at that first tent meeting. They began meeting in homes, and in 1908, they were given some land on Ransom St., which became the site for the first building of the Kalamazoo Church of God.  In 1920 the church built a new building on N. Rose St. where they worshipped until 1960.  In a grand procession from Rose street to Gorham Lane, they occupied the present building and became the Westwood Church of God.  In 1980, a tornado destroyed a large part of the building, but it was rebuilt with an additional wing and a new Sanctuary.  In September, 2014, following a revisioning process, the name was changed to Grace Harbor and the current season of minstry was begun.

In the 135 years of it's existence Grace Harbor has enjoyed the leadership of 8 pastors.
